It is important that you have something small to eat prior to your visit, however, please avoid eating a large meal within one hour of your appointment.
If possible, wear or bring comfortable, loose clothing that can be pulled above the knees/elbow.

Acupuncture does not hurt! The needles used in acupuncture are about a hair’s width. Everybody's tolerance is different, but most people feel only a minimal sensation when the needles are inserted. Common sensations after the needles are placed include a dull heaviness, tingling, warming, spreading, or muscle twitch sensation.

First we’ll sit and talk for a while. We are going to go over your health history and goals in detail. Next I’ll take your pulses at your wrists and look at your tongue. These are two diagnostic tools we use in Chinese medicine. And finally, we’ll do the treatment. Generally, my patients are on the treatment table for about 30 minutes. It’s very relaxing and most people take a little nap. Follow-up appointments will be shorter, as all we will need to do is check in on your progress or symptom shifts, followed by the treatment.
-
This is entirely dependent. In a nutshell, acute conditions can have a lasting shift after 6-8 consecutive treatments, whereas more chronic and challenging cases can take 10 or more treatments.
Acupuncture works as a series of treatments that build on each other. You can never have acupuncture treatments too close together, but you can have them too far apart. It works cumulatively and we want to continue building on your progress at each session. If you wait too long between treatments, there’s a good chance your symptoms will slowly start to creep back, so by the time we treat you again we’ll be back at square one. Ideally I would like to see you twice a week for the first 1-2 weeks. After that, if your symptoms are improving and staying at that level of improvement between appointments, we can reduce this to once per week until your symptoms clear. At that point, most people come back monthly for a “tune-up” and to ensure the pattern doesn’t make its way back in.

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves ahole in the day that could have been filled by another patient. As such, I require at least 24hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee of the full treatment amount to the card on file. We understand that things happen. Should you arrive late we will do our best to accommodate you, but understand that treatments may either be shortened, modified, or may not be possible. Please call or text (347)480-9409 if you are running late.
